how do you keep track off all your social media accounts

This is not a rhetorical question. I really need to know. I understand the need to get into all these social networking sites in order to broaden our reach. Especially to those who prefer other medium aside from blogs. But I'm actually struggling with keeping up with all of them. To be honest, my tumblr sucks. It really does. Don't get me wrong, I didn't go on a repost spree. I did pick those posts out, however it doesn't really reflect my blog at all.

So I was wondering, is the content on your tumblr the same with what you have on your blog? If not, then how do you determine what you post there?

I risk sounding like a total loon, but I'm really curious to know how we, as a blogger benefit from all the social media accounts we've set up. The ones I usually use would be blogger, twitter, goodreads and bloglovin. They all have their own purposes and I love it! I was just thinking if you guys have a method or process on how you go through each of your social media account?

And lastly, which ones your favorite? Aside from your blog of course. Here are some of the choices:

  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Tumblr
  • Goodreads
  • Instagram
  • Pinterest
  • Bloglovin
  • Youtube

  1. I only use Twitter and Goodreads and I can barely keep up with those! Occasionally I use Bloglovin' and Google+ but that's normally just to read other peoples posts. I can't imagine what a handful it would be if I used any more. I just tend to take one account (normally Twitter) and make that my main social media account to make it easier.

Oh, and to answer your question, my favourite is Twitter. :) (I probably made that a bit obvious).

    1. I love Twitter too. Twitter chats are the best, I've met a lot of bloggers there. I try to focus on just one account and then get suck back in trying to update the other one. It's a vicious vicious cycle that hopefully will end soon.

Thanks for sharing your favorite Lettora!

  2. I do not have a Twitter or Tumblr for my blog, because I do not have one for myself personally. I use social media sites that are designed for book lovers and bloggers more often, like Goodreads. I also use Booklikes.com and bookblogging.net. Both are newer sites that do not have all of the features that Goodreads does, but I have met some great bloggers on there. I also have a Facebook account, but I do not really put a lot of stuff on it.
    Great Post!

    1. Yeah Goodreads is such a helpful site for us book bloggers. I just wish they'd update the interface a little bit but aside from that I think it's great. I also have Facebook, but like you I seldom post anything there.

  3. Besides Bloglovin', which for me is like a set up and forget platform, I only have Twitter and Goodreads to keep track of my reads. Any more, and I wouldn't be able to keep up. I think for personal interaction, Twitter really is the way to go. It's easy to share posts and keep up with what other bloggers are up to as well. I don't think you need to have all these social media accounts, it becomes too much, you neglect some. It's not worth wasting the time that could be better spent reading. Awesome article Ana, I often wonder how others keep up with it all too <3

    1. It really is a challenge. I think I better delete some of the accounts I have, but then the selfish in me thinks atleast the names already mine Lol. (not that anyone else would want it) But thanks for sharing your thoughts Kelly!

  4. I definitely don't use them all. I only use what I WANT because...well, blogging is supposed to be enjoyable, right?!! No stress for me.
Twitter is my go too. I like it for chatting with people (even authors!! eeep!!) and just tweeting random funny things.
I used to post on facebook, but it sucks for pageviews so I ditched it.
Goodreads = MY LIFE IS GOODREADS. But that saying, I don't actually advertise my blog there at all. It's linked to it, but my reviews are all there for my brain's remembering benefit really. *shrugs*
Tumblr = I don't use it at all. Don't even know how. o.O
Bloglovin' = definitely. It's my main source of following other blogs and being followed with.
Pinterest = I LOVE PINTEREST. But again...I don't use it for my blog. I just pin stuff to make me happy. Nada blog things.
    Youtube = nope.

I don't think it's wise to do all of them, though. I mean, exhausting much?!! I reckon pick the ones that you get the most enjoyment from. I'm hopeless at actually advertising WITH the social media platforms. Half the time I forget to even tweet my posts.

    1. You're right. Maybe having all these accounts would just suck the fun out of what we're doing. Probably time to make some changes for the better. And I think it's better to just focus on one platform and get the best out of it. Thank you for the advise Cait, I would have to overhaul my social media stuff. Haha

  5. My Tumblr and Pinterest are badly in need of updating. I mainly use them to link to my blog posts, but I do reblog/pin other things that interest me...when I remember to use the sites at all. I'm on Twitter most often, although I don't interact with many in the book blogging community. Even though I dumped my personal Twitter for the blog Twitter! Right now I'm more focused on the baseball playoffs and people there, and I talk to some friends that I brought over from my personal Twitter. I don't use Goodreads as a social media account really. It's mainly a cataloging site for me.

    1. Sounds like you have a great system going Jenna. I'm such a mess in keeping up with all of this stuff. I actually use twitter to chat with other bloggers, I think its a great way for meeting like minded people. Thanks for sharing your go to social media account!

  6. I mostly use Facebook and Google+ to share a short summary of were my post that day on my blog is about. Then on twitter I tweet about my posts and usually stop by to say random things that come into my mind. I use Pinterest to pin my posts and to find new recipes. Goodreads I mainly for keeping track of which books I read and to post reviews. I kinda have a system for each social media system and it works for me. It can be a bit overhwelming at times, but most days it works.
I don't use Tumblr, Instagram or youtube.

My advice is pick a few social media platform that work for you and stick with them. Then have some sort of system on what to share where and in which order. Make it a routine, that makes it easy for me to keep track of it. Although that does mean I sometimes don't make time to share personal stuff instead of just promoting my blog posts.

    1. I'm so jealous. I am such a klutz when it comes to organization but you're advice sounds marvelous and definitely worth a shot. Hopefully my next post would be how I manage all of my social media accounts effectively. I would have to decide as to which one I can maintain for the long haul. Thanks for the advice Lola!

  7. I have one browser that I use for my personal life stuff, and then another browser for all of my blogging stuff. I have every link I need to access for blogging on the bookmarks toolbar, in the order that I typically use them. I also have it set up so that my blog auto posts to Facebook, Twitter, and G+ so that I only have a couple of clicks and copy and pastes to do on the other sites I use, and then I'm done.

    1. I'm going to have to try that. I'm sure it would save me a lot of time when I get the hang of auto-posting stuff on my other accounts. Thanks for sharing your process Rachelle, I appreciate it.

  8. I have Twitter, Google+, I just started Instagram, and then of course Goodreads. My main thing in keeping myself sane is that none of my social media is about THE BLOG. It's just me. That way I don't feel pressured. My blog is linked everywhere, and if using these other sites gets more traffic to my blog, great... but that's not why I have them. And if they stop being fun, I can get rid of them (like I did for Facebook earlier this year). Blogging can feel enough like a job on its own. I can't imagine trying to maintain a presence on every single social networking site.

    1. I really have to learn to cut back on some. You're right, blogging takes enough time on its own, and the pressure to always be present on most social media can really takes its toll. Thank you for sharing your thoughts Charleen :)

  9. Great question. I work as a social media manager (yes, there is such job) so this is one that hits the spot for me. I have all those platforms you mentioned but I don't use all of them for my blog. Twitter is a good tool for reaching new readers and making Twitter lists is a great way of monitoring tweets from blogger friends and even authors. I set up a Facebook page for my blog just so I have one, and because there are other people who are not on Twitter. Goodreads is super great because the books are there, and because we can use it to keep track of what we've read and what to read next. Bloglovin is so handy when I don't have the time to read every blog I follow because I can just hit save and read the next time I'm free. And then there's Instagram which lately I've also been using to share the books I read.

I have Tumblr, Pinterest, YouTube and Google+... but just for personal use. I think it's not really in the quantity but in the quality. You can pick just one or two among all these and focus your energy there. Somehow it will translate into good content and other people will see that.

    1. Yeah, I'm leaning towards just focusing on Twitter. So far, I've met a lot of new bloggers there and it allows me to keep up with the latest "chikas" at the same time. Hehe. Thanks for your input Joy. I love the sound of your job, is this where you maintain a clients social media account? :)

      Delete
    2. Yes, that's it. Basically we monitor and make content for the client's Facebook page, Twitter account, sometimes IG and YouTube. Fun... but then I spend so much time facing the computer so it gets exhausting sometimes.

  10. Fantastic discussion post! I have a personal preference for Twitter and it's really easy to reach me. I personally hate instagram and don't have one, but I personally think instagram is basically pinterest for smart phones. There's not much difference. :p

As for Tumblr... I have 2 different ones - one for personal use (to which I don't use much of), and one for blog posts.

I suppose most have a lot of social media accounts for a variety - some can have Facebook but not Twitter, some can have any, some can't have Twitter OR Facebook. I think it's just a matter of allowing everyone an option. :)

    1. Haha, Pinterest for smart phones, you're right. It mainly focuses on drawing people in through images. And yes, I'm sure most of the bloggers who are active with some of these medium do it to offer more options. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Sophi :)

  11. Tumblr! Well, I've only really ventured into it this past handful of months so don't know how helpful I can be, but for me personally my Tumblr is for my images (so I crosspost from Instagram, though I add little icons to the pictures beforehand because Tumblr people are notorious for not crediting things), quotes (I add quotes from whatever book I'm currently reading), tags (anything I get tagged in goes over there before I don't have room on Oh, the Books!), and other random bits (I do a "Just Finished" type thing where I share my initial thoughts about a book after I'm done reading it, which helps me when I go to write my longer review for Oh, the Books! and I do a "On My Bookshelf" feature carried over from Instagram where I highlight all the books I own and why I own them). So yeah! It goes well enough. I've somehow managed to get 300 followers so far which I don't think is bad for the few months I've been putting effort into it. I think a lot of those come just from my Instagram images, because it's a image-heavy site. I would like to use it to interact with people more, but I haven't figured that out yet. It's just not the same as blogging!

Apart from Tumblr, I use Facebook for personal stuff (mainly keeping in touch with family and old friends), Instagram for bookish pictures, and Twitter for books/publishing stuff. I don't really have a set plan for any of those things, just do what I want when I want. I don't think I use Twitter as much as I should but I find I never really have anything I think is interesting enough to say.

Now I also run the social media accounts for our blog, and for that we have a Facebook account, Twitter account, and Pinterest account. Pinterest I mainly just pin the posts we have on our blog each week, and sometimes pin other stuff (though not often). Facebook I post links to our post and sometimes do conversational type posts (What are you reading?). I'll also randomly share other blogger posts. Don't use it as much as I should though. (I really feel like Facebook is "old" though. To me, it's getting like Myspace. Everyone has it but people are sorting of moving on.) And Twitter I schedule two tweets a day for whatever post we publish, we have a plug-in set that automatically posts an archived post once a day, and I also sometimes tweet random stuff/reply to things there.

So I don't know what I'm saying. I'm all over! But I feel like Twitter is the best for blogging. Tumblr and Pinterest are nice but I don't feel like they do much for bloggers. I love Instagram. And Facebook is just meh.

  12. Karolina and I use Facebook and Twitter to keep our followers updated. I've actually kind of forgotten about my personal Twitter account because I'm on the blog account so much. We've talked about adding other social media, but really, it would just cost us a lot more time and effort that we could otherwise put in the blog itself.
